"Canvases (oil, charcoal, knife, red chalk) by the painter Alexandre-Louis
Martin, a portraitist. Classes of the Fine Arts academies in Mons and
Brussels. Teachers: E. Motte, J. Telville. The artist attended the courses
of Courtens and Vriendt. Works mainly directed towards a description of
popular ethnology and the miserable Walloon people. Old administrative
building of 1838. The entrance hall and the upper floor, as well as the
great council chamber act as exhibition rooms. 1938: the council chamber
was newly baptised the "Alexandre-Luis Martin" room, serving as an
exhibition room for the celebrations of the hundredth birthday of the
communal house."
