Le Roeulx, the city of roses
Roeulx is characterised by its rich historical past, of which it has kept essential testimonies such as the Castle of the Princes of Croÿ-Roeulx, the former St. Jacques Hospital, the Canal du Centre and the former Elevator No. 4 of Thieu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its territory also includes the Strépy-Thieu funicular lift, a technological feat with an imposing and fascinating silhouette. More simply, the landscapes of Roeulx are also distinguished by superb countryside, particularly remarkable in the villages of Gottignies, Mignault and Ville-sur-Haine. The town of Le Roeulx is always bustling with activity, with numerous organisations including the “Balloons and Wings” festival in mid-August and the Royal International Competition of New Roses in early September. Ideally located, Le Roeulx is also on the edge of major motorways.
